I have been in the industry since 1989 and grew up in the home of a dedicated stock agent and farmer. My career has taken me throughout the North and South Islands and I have enjoyed the great support of my lovely wife Victoria. We have three children named Angus, Alexandra and Jacquetta. My interests include cycling, tennis, the kids' sports (rowing, hockey, rugby, cricket, basketball, gymnastics etc) and rugby.
Justin has a background in banking and finance, and joined Hazlett in March 2018. Originally from Invercargill, his family moved around the South Island before ending up in Blenheim. Justin then moved to Christchurch where he has been for over 20 years now. Justin worked in Funding when he first came to Hazlett, but as his role evolved he moved his way through to the Procurement area of the business. The emphasis of his work in the Hazlett Procurement team is on livestock supply chain solutions and joint farming arrangements. In his spare time he enjoys playing both rugby and touch rugby, hitting the gym, walking and outdoor activities including, of course, fishing.
Unlike most of the Hazlett team, I was born in the city and never had much to do with agri business or farming until later in life. Please don’t hold that against me! After leaving high school, I joined the New Zealand Army and served in a range of different appointments throughout a 10 year career. I completed my service in 2019 as the Executive Officer of Support Weapons Company, 2nd/1st Battalion. Since leaving the Army, I have continued my career in the logistics and supply chain industry, firstly with a 3PL company based in Auckland and more recently with a mid-Canterbury agricultural engineering company. Outside of work I maintain a healthy obsession with sport - I play rugby and golf at local clubs and I go to live sporting fixtures often. My partner, Hayley, and I also enjoy hiking, spending time at the beach, staying fit & active and adventuring with our 1 year old puppy, Zulu.
Growing up as a child I always wanted to be part of the stock and station industry and join other family members who were involved in Hazlett. Whilst I enjoyed growing up in a number of different places all over New Zealand, my schooling was completed in Canterbury. Whilst my now wife Vicky and I made the move to the North Island as Hazlett continued to grow, I still call Canterbury home. I started my career in the industry in 2013 with another Livestock company before joining the Hazlett team at the end of 2016. I love playing my hockey in the winter and enjoy summer BBQ’s and a bit of boating over the warmer months.
My experience in agriculture ranges from grass roots farming through to executive agribusiness positions and I have enjoyed helping Hazlett build on its outstanding success to date. I am married to Kaye and we have two adult sons.
I have been in the farming industry for the last 25 years, working on and managing properties throughout Canterbury & Otago. In the last 8 years I have taken on Operational Manager roles in large scale corporate farming businesses. I enjoy spending time with my wife Justine & three grown up children. My interests also include hunting, fishing & rugby.
